LOCAL HISTORIAN & AUTHOR
Alan Griffin served as a firefighter at Southam Fire Station from 1962 after taking over the family grocery shop. He can be seen in the 1965 & 1973 photos on the crews page.
He spent some time as a photo-journalist and later became a wholetime firefighter and served for over 28 years, retiring in 1990.
Alan has been a prolific researcher and author for Southam Fire Brigade, Warwickshire Fire Brigade and later, the fighting men of Southam, and Southam in general.
Below, are some of the books he has written, two of which have greatly assisted the forming of this website. Some of the images and date references were confirmed by referencing his books.
The images on this site are from the crew of the Fire Station, (past & present), the Cardall Collection and the Southam Heritage Collection, but many of them have been collated and published by Alan in his books, which are clearly a labour of love for the Fire Brigade, the serving men & women and town of Southam.
Alan George Griffin died on 13th June 2025.
The Leamington History Group have dedicated a page of their website to Alan as well.
